This election is about the future and that is why I support Doug Sutherland’s re-election as public lands commissioner.
As an hourly worker at the last remaining pulp and paper mill in Everett, I understand the important balance between resources and community. My mill was built almost 80 years ago, and many of my co-workers are third- and fourth-generation employees. We live in the most beautiful region in the world and our natural resources enable us to enhance our communities, educate our children and enrich our lives.
Working families across Washington support Doug Sutherland because he shares our community values and our public commitment to balanced policies that protect family jobs and enhance the environment for future generations.
The Washington Constitution established trust funds with revenues derived from public lands. These funds are used to help finance schools, libraries and other essential community needs. For example, forest trust funds helped finance a much-needed high school in Arlington and, recently, the trust funds contributed to the construction of a new elementary school in Monroe.
As lands commissioner, Doug Sutherland has provided balanced stewardship of our public lands and has served the public interest. As a citizen and parent, I believe Doug Sutherland’s leadership has demonstrated a commitment to our environment, communities and children.
