The National Education Association has strong opposition to the Supreme Court voucher decision. It foresees a real threat to their membership enrollment because private school teachers are not members and do not pay dues to the NEA. Membership dues for a public school teacher are $800 per year or more.
With the 1946 World War II GI bill some were concerned; how could you take public money and allow a GI to attend a private college when state colleges needed the money so badly? Turns out it was the best thing that happened to colleges both public and private.
