For many years now, I have been more than discouraged at the lack of challenge in our high school curricula. If an ordinary student through a Running Start program can successfully complete the work of a high school and a college curriculum at the same time, there must be something wrong either with the high school or the college.
I have suspected it is with the high school.
And then I read the Sunday guest commentary (“Address Everett High’s race issues”) by an Everett High School junior that was a literate, logical attempt to solve a serious problem at that high school. I guess there is light – at least one point of it – in the darkness that has become American secondary education.
I hope the administration appreciates the student and his solution.
