On Jan. 18, the first Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service project was held. More than 75 youth and adult volunteers came together to help seniors in our community with projects around their homes. This was truly a day of service, not a day off.
The organizations that helped include the United Way of Snohomish County, the YMCA of Snohomish County and its Minority Achievers Program, Volunteer Chore Services and RSVP, programs of Catholic Community Services. This was a very successful first-time service project for these organizations. Through this collaboration we were able to bring together people of various backgrounds who might not ordinarily meet, to work toward turning community needs into community action.
Their hard work and effort made a huge difference in our clients’ lives. The volunteers were on time, eager, and above all gave our projects 110 percent effort! Our clients wish to express their deepest gratitude to all of those volunteers.
Catholic Community Services also wishes to thank Starbucks and QFC on Broadway, and Peterson Fruit in Mukilteo for their donations of much needed supplies. Lincoln from the Everett Silvertips made a surprise visit and lifted our spirits.
These volunteers touched these people’s lives in a way that they will always remember. They all were a pleasure to work with. Thank you for making a difference!
