I read with interest The Herald’s article about the children in Marysville going on strike to protest losing their summer vacation. The article also said because of the children’s protesting they will be punished. Principal Susan Bell said her Cedarcrest students will face varying forms of discipline. I hope the principal will take into consideration that the students are just doing what their teachers did when they felt they weren’t being treated right.
My granddaughter attended a Marysville school last year, and I had the occasion to drive her to school a number of times. One morning, as we sat in the car and visited a few minutes before school started, I couldn’t help but notice the sloppy dress of some students. I told her it was a shame that students didn’t take more pride in their dress. There was one particularly sloppy young man who looked as if he had just crawled out of bed. I asked my granddaughter whether he would be allowed to stay in school looking so unkempt. Her answer was “Yes, they can’t send him home; he’s a teacher.” Need I say more?
A picture is worth a thousand words.
