Reform certainly is needed from what I have observed, and the comments from many parents about how well the schools are performing. Many parents are concerned and mad about the quality of education their kids are receiving.
One main point of contention is the fact that during the school year, the kids are in class only 147 full days and 33 half days, and there are 23 no-school days. And, of course, between recesses and lunches, how much schooling is done on the half days? Whatever happened to schools being in session for 180 full days? I am sure the production of the kids and teachers would improve a great deal if more time was spent in the classrooms teaching.
We the taxpayers are paying to educate the children. I personally don’t like paying taxes for so many days off. Also, I have heard a lot of comments from parents about the fact that the bullying is still happening in the schools. Schools are supposed to be safe places and evidently it would appear they are not being protected from this type of behavior. Wake up, parents! Do you want your kids educated enough to be able to compete in the world market or are you just satisfied with letting the school boards and educators continue on the path they are on and spending the money and not performing the tasks of devoting their full energy to educating and protecting the kids?
