In reply to Ben Rosander’s letter expressing concerns about the dangers and shortsightedness of building a high school on Getchell Hill: I have lived on Getchell since 1948. I graduated from Marysville School High School 55 years ago. My daughters also graduated from Marysville. My grandchildren are attending Marysville schools.
Rosander expressed concerns about danger of young drivers navigating the hill in winter conditions. All the children living on and east of the hill that attend Marysville schools have to go down the hill to the schools either by bus or car in the winter conditions. There are alternative routes is place in the event of a major storm. Our children need schools, preferably in their neighborhoods.
I am not aware of any major gas lines on the property. Aren’t there gas lines to most schools right now?
Recently, I went to Marysville-Pilchuck High School to take my grandson to an appointment. The crowded conditions made me very aware of the critical need for another high school. I will be supporting this proposed construction bond issue Sept. 20.
