Studded winter tires are obsolete. Studs are not just noisy, but reduce gas mileage and rip up roads.
They are also less safe on dry or wet roads. Current winter tire technology combined with today’s sophisticated drive train powering (example: all-wheel drive) is the answer.
We in the state of Washington need to join the rest of the modern world and not allow their blanket use – with possible local exceptions where defensible (snowy/icy areas of state and for emergency and/or first responders). In any case, studded-tire users need to pay for the additional cost to all taxpayers.
