In November of 1999 my second son was born at an amazing birth center in Everett. The care I received from my midwives, Darlene Curtis and Janine Walker, was extraordinary.
My pregnancy was not without complications and they were very careful to monitor me and took every precaution necessary, which led to a healthy outcome. Thanks to the midwives at Cascade Birthing Center I was able to have the ideal and unforgettable birth that I dreamt of.
While there are risks with any birth, losses may occur and unfortunately not every outcome is ideal. I don’t feel that a recent article on Cascade Midwives and Birthing Center properly explained the situations faced by midwives, doctors and hospitals on a daily basis.
Every month in Washington there are 15 to 20 malpractice suits filed against obstetricians, most a result of a bad outcome which no one expected.
Since The Herald does not report these cases, but has reported the suit against Cascade Midwives and Birthing Center, I question whether The Herald is biased against midwifery.
