Condolences to the Darrington School Board and the Darrington community. According to Wednesday’s Herald, they suffered defeat in a recent triangular meet. (Article, “Darrington schools to OK $440K to superintendent.”)
The Darrington School Board had fired their superintendent, Larry Johnson, in February 2011 due to a situation in which their financial director, Myra Lewis, died from a drug overdose while at Johnson’s home. While there was no evidence of criminal responsibility on Johnson’s part, the school board felt there were ethical problems in his relationship with the financial director.
The winner of this triangular meet appeared to be Johnson’s attorney, with a score of $230,000. Johnson himself placed a close second with a score of $210,000 (plus an additional year and one-half salary while on paid leave), and the Darrington taxpayer was a distant third with a score of $0, plus the bill for the event.
