If you live in unincorporated county and feel that development is clear-cutting its way through your neighborhood without building quality communities, please take the time to get out and vote. I have been very involved in growth issues in my south county neighborhood and our county-wide policy issues for many years. I know that our current council members Dave Somers and Mike Ashely have proven to be fair and equitable when it comes to building communities, not just houses. We so desperately need to think about what we are doing in these areas being hard hit by development located outside the city limits.
We are getting housing density, but it clearly says in the Growth Management Act and our county’s General Policy Plan that we are to preserve open space and provide the amenities (such as parks, good roads and mixed use centers) that go with this type of development. The current council has made steps towards better land use decisions.
We need to replace our retiring council member Barbara Cothern with Dave Gossett, and re-elect Dave Somers and Mike Ashley to continue down this path to create more livable communities. Do you like the developments you see? If not, then do something about it. Please get out and vote for Gossett, Somers and Ashely.
