If you’re an absentee voter in Darrington, please don’t vote until you understand how our schools for your kids, grandkids or other relatives are funded. It is a troubled time. We need your help to maintain the standards that have been set by the community and our school board.
Soon absentee voters can begin voting for continuing our commitment to strong community values and invaluable educational support. If (and only if) the levy passes, we will continue to receive additional state local effort area funds for our schools. We do not have enough property tax revenue to support Darrington schools. Our land rich, tax poor district gets help because only 8 percent of the land within our district is taxable. The remaining 92 percent is comprised of state/national forests or parks.
Citizens are invited to attend an open town meeting, Thursday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. in the dining room of the Community Center. This meeting is sponsored by the Citizens for Darrington Schools Committee. Members, school district staff and board members will be available to answer questions. Information on property tax relief for seniors will be available. Open meeting law rules apply.
