I learned of the tragic death of King County Deputy Rich Herzog while in Tulsa, Oklahoma attending the National Sheriff’s Association Annual Conference. Needless to say it is the worst possible news to absorb as a sheriff. After speaking with King County Sheriff Dave Reichert on the phone and listening to the anguish and hurt in his voice, memories of Deputy Jim Kinard surfaced. I can’t imagine what then Sheriff Jim Scharf must have gone through. My heart goes out to the Herzog family and the King County Sheriff’s Office.
I came home last night and caught up on my reading and discovered the wonderful editorial you printed supporting law enforcement. It brought tears to my eyes! I wanted to say thank you from my heart for your eloquent words. I know that the law enforcement family in this county is appreciative of the support we have received from this community and The Herald. In an age when it seems as if everyone is becoming more critical of public servants every day, The Herald reporting staff’s professionalism and your editorial courage are refreshing. Thank you for your words of support, they mean more to us than you will ever know.
God bless you.
