If “the example of successful local control (of library Internet access -Dec. 1 Our Views) is already evident here in Snohomish County,” then I think it’s important to remind everyone of two things:
1. SAFEPAC (see www.safepac.org) battled Sno-Isle on this issue until this compromise was reached – it didn’t happen automatically and (thank God) the default access for children is now filtered only.
2. There are still unfiltered terminals, patrons who are printing whatever they please at taxpayer expense and likely environments fostered for possible encounters between unsupervised children and sex offenders.
If protecting children isn’t a good case to bring before the U.S. Supreme Court, then what is?
