I am sick of the words “plea bargain.” It seems like this is all you hear from prosecutors anymore (Dec. 19 article, “Admitted gang member sentenced to 13 years for 2008 killing of teen”).
It must be an easy out for them. To let that scumbag who stabbed that poor girl with a screwdriver and drowned her for vomiting in his car get away with a 13-year sentence is a disgrace. Chances are he will even get out early for good behavior.
It sounds to me like a plea bargain is a way to close the case no matter what. I think they have gone too far with the plea bargains, letting these scumbags out in a few years to do it again. I think the justice system needs some changes on this. And give these lowlifes what they deserve: the death sentence or life in prison. Even the prosecutors and judges might sleep better at night.
