Last fall I read in The Herald that they had ping pong at the Senior Center in Everett. I dismissed it because I pictured a bunch of immobile, not very good, aging people playing ping pong. A short time later, Bob Overstreet gave me a personal invitation to come try it out, so I thought I should be a good sport and go play once.
I was shocked at the level of play happening at the center. These players were good, much better than me and I thought I had a game on! I have now tried to arrange my schedule so as to not miss any ping pong times at the center (Monday and Wednesday noon-3:30 p.m. and Saturday 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.). The participants are very friendly and helpful to anyone who comes. Howard, the coordinator, is even willing to teach you a few things.
I’m pretty excited to be playing lots of ping pong, enjoying some lessons and grateful for such a wonderful facility in our community. Anyone young can look forward to turning 50 in Everett, because they can be part of a vibrant Senior Center.
