I find it amusing that there are all sorts of fingers pointing places other than at the person seen in the mirror. First of all, with one-party rule, a certain myopia exists with our state’s political and bureaucratic leaders about the truly unfriendly business atmosphere that exists here (not to mention the really bad traffic that adds cost to doing business here).
I have had more than one conversation with people who would like to start manufacturing businesses here but can’t due to all of the problems they face.
Second, the folks who manage at Boeing can look in that mirror and ask themselves whether they have truly made all of the improvements in their span of control that would keep Boeing-Seattle competitive in a market that is gaining more competitors, not less.
Finally, the workers have to give up a behavior where they get reflexive about Boeing trying to “put one over on them.” It seems like Boeing is able to deal with a myriad of other unions and not take a strike, with the most recent being in Philadelphia, so it can’t be some sort of anti-labor bias on the company’s part.
If there is something wrong, it may just be “us.” It would be refreshing for some from this cast of characters to stand up and admit this and then discuss the ways they are going to self-improve.
