I’m a senior at Meadowdale High School and one of my classes has been studying the Israeli-Palestinian conflict for awhile now. I have tried to learn as much as I can about the people who live in fear every day, about the kids who have lost their innocence, and about the irony that has taken place in the holiest spot on earth, but I cannot even begin to understand the pain everyone feels. Israel seems worlds away.
But I’ve learned that it’s not. If Israel is so far away, then why does Tom Brokaw give us Middle East updates every night and why are there new stories in the newspaper every day? All we can do as seniors in high school is be thankful for what we have, even though we’re struggling through a severe case of senioritis, and keep educating ourselves. It’s not such a “foreign concept” when everyone is talking about it every day.
