Democrats are dumb. They promote and try to pass legislation to help the average American citizen and protect the environment. The Republican lawmakers and their supporters just laugh at these futile efforts. They know that Democrat-sponsored legislation is almost always missing that one ingredient essential to any important Republican-backed legislation: Massive tax cuts for the rich.
For Republicans, massive tax cuts for the rich is like taking any food and wrapping it in bacon and deep-frying it. It becomes irresistible. Pass a new health care plan: just add massive tax cuts for the rich and the majority of Republicans in Congress are salivating at the idea. Tax reform: massive tax cuts for the rich will be the No. 1 ingredient to ensure its passage.
Now like any food that is wrapped in bacon and deep fried, over consumption of massive tax cuts for the rich will lead to long-term consequences. The Republicans solution is not to reduce consumption of something that is this appealing, but to cut back on just about everything else. Cut Medicaid, cut funding of environmental protection (including protection of Puget Sound), cut the U.S. Forest Service and the National Park budgets, cut services to the poor, and on and on. Sacrifices must be made to sustain a steady diet of massive tax cuts for the rich even if it adversely affects the long-term health of the country because, as we have seen from the president, impulse control is not a Republican thing.
