Sno-Isle Libraries provides exceptional service to our community. When I came to Darrington 28 years ago I was especially impressed that this small community had such an amazing library. Over time I became even more impressed with the growth, adaptation and innovative local services.
From the regional level to the town, Sno-Isle has really worked at helping and growing with the changing community they are a part of. Day to day things like changing the way books are circulated and displayed, to more complicated and expensive things like computers and digital reading services and personalized help with technology. They bring deluxe events locally, such as the popular and imaginative TEDx series and expert speakers exploring the dynamics of the area geology.
Yes, I am agreeing to a tax increase. The current tax levy for the library keeps ratcheting down the rate per $1,000. Yes, our home values have increased quite a bit. But at least in my case other expenses have gone up a lot faster than the value of my home such as construction costs and home repair, and services such as my phone bill. Sno-Isle Library also has to meet these increasing costs.
On my property, the tax for Sno-Isle has gone up about half as fast as the value of my house. The actual dollars for the Sno-Isle levy on my bill is a small amount for the great service and has not kept up with real costs of maintenance and improvements.
I enthusiastically urge you to vote yes to return the library levy rate to the previous higher rate.
Every time I visit our library I see rooms filled with a wonderful variety of people, and I smile at my opportunity to help share this luxury that keeps all of us moving ahead of the curve. And, whatever the outcome, thank you so much Sno-Isle Library system and all of your great staff for helping me living in such a fine community.
