I’s the legislative session, so I clicked on the Washington legislative Web site to find out what schemes our legislators have to further deplete our paychecks. I found House Bill 2399 – family leave insurance.
Some legislators think that you should pay for my family leave, or is it that I should pay for your family leave? The eligibility section is confusing, however, I believe almost everyone would be eligible for family leave at $250 per week.
The funding for the bill comes from a payroll tax of a penny per hour (a combined $40 per year) on both the employee and the employer.
It gets even better: section 20 of the bill allows the director of Labor &Industry to “adjust the amount of premium from time to time” to “maintain actuarial solvency” of the program. Talk about taxation without representation!
If the elected officials and bureaucrats wonder why they have Tim Eyman creating havoc with the state’s taxing ability, they have their own arrogance to blame.
