Hearing about plans to allow more growth in the county makes me cringe. It is obvious that some areas are already unable to handle any further growth. Schools are becoming overcrowded, Highway 9 is so antiquated, it has become the newest commuter parking lot, and the infrastructures of some of these smaller towns are unable to accommodate the residents they now serve.
I for one, can’t handle any more tax increases, having already had to stomach increases that, coupled with recent layoffs and a reassessment that raised our property taxes by about 50 percent, may prove to be too much for our growing family. Of course, the way the economy is headed, the county can just wait for people like us to lose our jobs and homes, then they won’t need to do any more building. There will be plenty of existing homes (nearly new) that will be on the market. Our 1-year-old neighborhood is already feeling the effects.
