I need some help from the tea party. I need you to explain to me why you are so intransigent in this current debate. The president and the Democrat-controlled Senate have moved a bunch toward your position … though not enough from your point of view. You do not have a majority, even in the Republi
can Party let alone the House or Senate. The president agrees with you on the need to get our finances under control but does not agree with you on how to realize that goal.
Tea party, you are endangering all that you are trying to fix. If the United States defaults or if we look like we cannot govern ourselves responsibly we will all be taxed by higher interest rates. The “debt limit” really has nothing to do with where we would all like to be. This amount represents our current credit card balance. It is money we have already spent and owe interest on.
Tea party, you need to realize this is not going to be fixed overnight unless you control both houses of Congress and the presidency. Since you are not there yet, take what you can get.
Tea party, please use some common sense. Most of the country agrees that our debt is out of control. Keep reminding us, but do not send us further into economic decline.
Tea party, you will serve the country and yourselves best if you learn to compromise. If you insist on everything your way then you need to get enough folks elected to have a veto proof majority in both houses of Congress. A veto-proof majority is my definition of a mandate and right now you folks are a long way from having any sort of mandate.
