I am appalled by the article in the Wednesday Herald stating that we (the USA) can no longer afford to go to the moon. (“Experts: No-go for launch on moon plans.”) We are a country that spends $157 billion on a product that kills 440,000 people annually. NASA’s budget is $18 billion, an organization that may some day save the life of this planet.
We are rapidly using up all the resources on this globe, and will have to turn to outer space for these resources. If we could only spend what we waste on things that kill — tobacco, alcohol, drugs, and wars that we can’t win — Star Trek would be a reality. The jobs that would be created by expanding our space program would be endless, and would pay back handsomely.
