Teachers behaving like spoiled children

Because our children are the future, we provide them the best education possible so they can lead us through the 21st century. We send them to school and support the educational system. Hard-working teachers are rewarded with salaries extracted from the taxpayer for that purpose.

So, what are we getting from our teachers in return? We get elitism. We get arrogance. We get an undermining of the values we teach in the home.

Eighty-five percent of the Marysville parents and staff surveyed wanted the day the teachers took off made up on Feb. 14. But this would have deprived Marysville’s teachers of their four day weekend so they simply voted not to show up as directed by the school district.

And, like a spoiled child, they also refuse to leave lesson plans for the substitutes, in effect saying, “I’m not going to do it and you can’t make me. So there.” The teachers’ union contends that some of the teachers had plans. So what? Parents had plans for Jan. 14, the day the teachers played hooky to demand more money.

Like the child with the tantrum, the teachers are out of control and need to be disciplined. We must do so firmly and lovingly for the sake of our children and the good of society.

Today’s teachers and their unions are making the case for charter schools and vouchers. They are proving themselves to be counterproductive and obsolete. For the sake of the children and our future, this trend needs to be reversed. For the good of our children we must fine or fire teachers and their unions engaging in inappropriate behavior. It will not be pleasant, but for the good of our children it must be done.
