Teachers should honor the contract

I see that Marysville teachers voted overwhelmingly to ignore the makeup day that school district leaders have scheduled to replace the day off that my son, and 17,000 other students, already had in January.

As I see it, the teachers are under contract. I work for Boeing. Under our collective bargaining agreement with the Boeing Co., it is illegal for us (IAM 751) to walk off the job for any reason while under contract. If we did, the result would be immediate termination.

I see no difference between the IAM and the Marysville teachers. Any teacher that ignores the makeup day should be terminated. I’m keeping my son out of school that day. My taxes don’t pay the school to baby-sit and watch puppet shows. By ignoring the order to teach that day, the teachers are sending the wrong signal to our children.
