I recently had the opportunity to observe my granddaughter participate in her first golf lesson taught by Jeff Cornish, coach and executive director of “The First Tee” of Snohomish County, a national golf program dedicated to young people to promote character development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf.
I was concerned about the attention span of my granddaughter that night because she had spent considerable time that weekend participating in community activities and the lesson was on a Sunday evening. Upon our arrival at the Snohomish Golf Course, Coach Jeff immediately established a positive relationship with my granddaughter and it was apparent that she benefited and enjoyed the lesson.
I have coached young people over 40 years in youth sports and I was sincerely impressed by the teaching methods and relationship established by Coach Jeff and the First Tee Program. The game of golf is an activity that I know my granddaughter will enjoy for years to come.
The First Tee Youth Golf Program of Snohomish County can be reached through their email address, local_knowledge@msn.com. By the way, my granddaughter is only 9 years old and now plays 18 holes with her father and grandparents.
