It was fun watching Everett Community College’s men’s and women’s cross-country teams claim NWAACC cross-country championships at Everett’s Legion Golf Course on Nov. 12. The meet is the culmination of the runners’ season and features community colleges from throughout Washington and Oregon. Winning men’s and women’s titles is quite an accomplishment.
The fact that the men placed five runners in the top 10 (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 6th and 9th) to end Spokane’s 10-year dominance of the meet was equally impressive. Many graduated athletes from local high schools played key roles in the program’s success. It was neat watching them continue their running careers.
Everett Community College provides a great opportunity for local student/athletes to continue their academics and athletics beyond high school. Coach Matt Koenigs has done a fine job developing Everett Community College’s cross-country program. Kudos also to the city of Everett for approving this meet. Legion Golf Course offered the perfect venue for a championship cross-country meet!
