In early February I contemplated writing a letter of thanks to the city of Arlington for the purchase of the Graafstra farm for public use. (Feb. 1 article, “Arlington to buy 150 acres for conservation park.”) Beautiful acreage on the river will never be turned into condos or a Wal-Mart.
I also contemplated the thanks I would like to extend to the Graafstras. I really don’t know what the true market value is for that land, but it sounds like the people (public) got a honey of a deal.
So I don’t have the name of the gentleman who worked with the Graafstras to secure the deal, but I contemplated thanking him as well.
All these acts were not acted upon until Feb. 15 when I read the letter in The Herald from someone who doesn’t agree with the purchase. (“Arlington’s purchase will cost us all.”)
Thank God we have some people in charge with vision. These are the best kind of things to spend money on. We need wild spaces and trees, we need access to rivers. Thank you.
