Kudos to The Herald for the inspiring story on the new teachers (“Genuine Class Acts,” Sept. 2). The individuals are entering the profession for all the right reasons and I wish them well. With the current teacher shortage we need more motivated, committed and caring people entering the profession. Too often we forget that our most precious resource are our children. They are the future leaders, workers and parents and during their formidable school years we need the absolute best teachers that districts can recruit.
Again kudos to The Herald, but also kudos to the new teachers who changed careers and will be entering a profession that is challenging, sometimes frustrating but always rewarding.
Quoting from a poem from Lincoln Elementary School – “A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of clothes I wore, But the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child.”
I encourage The Herald to do a follow-up story with these teachers at the end of the year to get feedback on their first year.
