I want to express my sincere gratitude to all the people that made my 28-year career in law enforcement successful.
First, I wish to thank Sheriff Rick Bart for giving me the opportunity to ascend to the second highest position in the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office. With his blessing I attended the FBI National Academy. I worked in nearly every assignment and at every rank in the office. I worked with great people. I did things that most cops can only dream of doing. It was quite a ride!
Second, I thank the Snohomish County Council and County Executive Bob Drewel for their support. The lawsuit that I filed against the county is being settled. Filing the suit was the last thing I wanted to do; my only goal was to protect the pension that I had worked so hard to build. With the help of the council and the executive, my pension was protected and the suit will be dismissed. Things were made right and everyone wins, including the taxpayers.
Finally and foremost, I thank my wife and family for putting up with odd hours, the worry, and the ups and downs of the good, bad and ugly that comes with law enforcement. I know that this profession changes how you look at things. I saw it occur over and over with others. Too many became bitter and angry. Over time I reached my limit and leaving the profession was the best thing for all of us.
I now look forward to building another life outside of the police world. It is an opportunity to start over and try something new. I will continue to serve my community but hope to do it in other ways.
Again, thanks to all of you. I couldn’t have done it without you.
