On Aug. 16, more than 270 Snohomish County residents received American Red Cross CPR (cardio pulmonary resuscitation) training from the Snohomish County Chapter. We called the free event CPR Saturday and dedicated it as a “thank you” for the ongoing financial, volunteer and material support the chapter receives from a very generous community.
An objective of the Red Cross’ mission to help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies is to make Snohomish County a safer place for all of us to live. We never know when or to whom tragedy will strike in the form of heart failure or stroke. It could happen at home, in a grocery store, at the shopping mall, or while taking a leisurely stroll in our neighborhood. To know how to administer CPR is to know how to save a life. Nearly 300 people learned to do that last Saturday.
Red Cross is a community resource made possible by a community dedicated to neighbors helping neighbors. Your local Red Cross is deeply grateful to CPR Saturday sponsors: Group Health and the Lynnwood Convention Center host facility; to The Herald for helping us get the word out; and to everyone who participated, including Red Cross volunteer instructors, administrative and logistical helpers. Most of all, to those who took the course, we offer thanks and appreciation for making this life-saving event such a great success.
CPR Saturday is another of the chapter’s advances in bringing Red Cross outreach programs into the community, making health and safety training more accessible to those who might otherwise find it difficult to get to the Red Cross.
CPR courses are held at the chapter in Everett throughout the year. Call 425-740-2321, for information about dates, times and cost.
