Throughout its 92-year history, the Snohomish County Chapter of the American Red Cross has pledged to “be there” when disaster strikes. It’s a commitment that has embraced expectation of service to the community and dependence of support from the community.
During the recent January floods, the Red Cross opened emergency shelters at Arlington, Monroe and Stanwood, where displaced flood victims were provided safe haven, food and compassionate care.
As Red Cross embarked on its operation to help flood victims, many compassionate and generous Snohomish County businesses and residents responded in a spirit of neighbors helping neighbors with financial and in-kind donations. Included were school children who wanted to bring comfort to others their age who were touched by the disaster.
My heartfelt thanks to all corporate and individual donors alike for contributing money, supplies and services. Also, thanks to our chapter’s many volunteers, the life-blood of Red Cross, for their time, effort and skillful performance. And a special thank you to their families who so unselfishly endured their absences.
To try to name everyone who helped in any way during our Red Cross flood relief efforts would be to risk inadvertently missing someone. Red Cross is grateful to one and all.
