Upon arriving home from work on April 26, I found my 35-year-old appaloosa mare Charm stuck up against a cedar tree down a small embankment on my property.
After calling the vet, I knew more help was needed. So I called 911 and explained the situation. The dispatch operator told me that fire departments usually do not respond to this type of call but they would check with my district. Well, my district, Snohomish County FPD No. 19, accepted.
Through the coordinated efforts of Capt. Keith Strotz, the many volunteers from FD No. 19, Dr. Andy Stang and my neighbor Bob Haller, they were able to pull her to safety and Charm was back on hooves with no major injuries. She was exhausted but this special horse had a determination to live.
I extend my deeply heartfelt thanks to Snohomish County FPD No. 19: Captain Keith Strotz, Jeremy, Beverly, John, Carly, Trent, Nick, David, Kathi, Kurt and Darlene. I am in awe of you all. The compassion and care each of you showed is something I’ll never forget. We expect you to help save human lives but this went above and beyond. I tip my hat to you and say thank you…job well done!
At this time, Charm is doing well. We believe she may have had a very mild stroke. Charm and I are taking it one day at a time and I am cherishing every day I have with her. My faith in the Lord keeps me strong. Knowing that this miracle was in His glorious hands strengthens my faith even more. May God bless and keep you all safe and sound.
