Thanks to teachers for making trip great

I wanted to say thanks to several Arlington Haller and Post Middle school teachers who led 77 children and parents on a visit to Washington, D.C., over spring break. The teachers helped students with fund-raisers, trip organization and gave up their spring break to lead the trip.

The students had the opportunity to visit and learn the historical significance of Jamestown, Williamsburg, Mount Vernon, Arlington National Cemetery and many other historically significant memorials and buildings.

They learned about civics, government and the legislative branch at the U.S. Capitol building during a meeting with Rep. Rick Larsen and by sitting in a session of the House of Representatives; learned about the executive branch at the White House; and the judicial branch during a tour of the Supreme Court.

I was so impressed by the students’ behavior and ability to act in a respectful manner for long periods of time at the memorials and inside the U.S. Capitol building. The teachers did an excellent job explaining the proper way to behave at the memorials and in public buildings.

I want to extend special thanks to the wonderful teachers who gave up their spring break to provide this learning experience. The teachers showed patience and caring for the children and a consistent passion to share their knowledge with all of us. We are so privileged to have this caliber of teachers in the Arlington School District.

Thanks to Post teachers Mike Preisinger, Melinda Skyles and Heidi Burke. Thanks to Haller teachers Cathy Clark Smith, Holly Christmas Harris, Melissa Molthan and Greer Verrier Davis.

My daughter Megan and I will treasure what we have learned and the memories from this trip for the rest of our lives.

With gratitude,

Darrin Braaten
Arlington
