I would like to extend appreciation to the three men who stepped out of their busy lives to help me. My car battery had died in the Marysville Safeway parking lot on June 17.
After I had called AAA, Ramone stopped by and asked if I had jumper cables. Yes. He got the battery running. AAA showed up within 10 minutes and stayed to ensure I wouldn’t need a tow. I then drove across the street to Schucks. I bought a new battery and was attempting to remove the old battery, when Roy, a Schucks customer, stopped by and said he could not drive away without seeing if he could be of help. He swapped out the batteries. The car still didn’t start, so he called a friend of his. He boasted that his friend could figure out what was wrong, for “cheap.”
Roy had to leave, but his friend would be there shortly. Soon John drove up. After some testing, he figured out that the clamps on the new battery had not been tightened enough for contact. When I asked how much for his time/trouble, John said, “Don’t worry about it.”
I reflect on Ramone’s, Roy’s and John’s chivalry. I was truly blessed to meet these three men in a small span of time and distance. Lucky, lucky me! Additional thanks, gentlemen! And thanks also to my friend Penny for her support.
P.S. For Roy: Sponge Bob Fireworks, Stand 47, at Boom City Fireworks, Tulalip.
