I am writing in response to Thomas Munyon’s letter in Sunday’s paper about the “tar paper” covering the storm drains (“Road work: Length of time, mess hardly worth it”). Actually, what he is seeing is filter fabric used to supplement erosion control. It helps to keep silt and other debris out of the storm system, thereby helping to maintain our streams during construction. It will be removed once the landscaping has generated a sufficient root system. It may be an eyesore to the uninformed, but it is a necessity.
