The bear necessities

Smarter than the average bear: A federal appeals court has reversed a lower court’s ruling that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service had erred in designating 187,000 square miles in Alaska as critical habitat for polar bears.

Among the arguments that swayed the court the most was an amicus brief from the grizzly bear in “The Revenant” that asked if appeals court judges taste anything like Oscar-winning actors.

Get Hacked: The IRS announced that the attack by hackers that compromised the records of taxpayers who used its Get Transcript service was worse than initially thought last year; as many as 390,000 records were hacked.

FBI, please go ahead with your argument that Apple should provide a “backdoor” key that “only you” can use to get into an iPhone.

Don’t know much about history: On this day in 1790, President George Washington signed a measure authorizing the first U.S. census.

The census wasn’t as complicated then as it is today. Census takers just had to get everyone in the same room and holler, “Count off!”
