The big game
Cowboys Stadium, site of Super Bowl XLV, cost more than $1 billion to build, and now we know why: there’s apparently a green room inside the scoreboard, where the Black Eyed Peas cooled their heels during the first half.
Speaking of the Peas, Fergie’s top remained firmly in place during her halftime bump-and-grind, thereby preserving the nation’s moral fiber, and sparing us from a return performance next year by the dessicated corpses of the Who.
Shoe needs: On this day in 1943, the government slapped wartime rations on shoes. Americans could buy no more than three pairs per person for the remainder of the year.
Mindful of the need to maintain morale on the home front, officials raised the weekly ration of Lucky Strikes to four cartons per person.
Pass the salt: The government now says Americans should curb their salt intake to about a teaspoon a day — or a half-teaspoon for folks in certain risk groups, such as those with high blood pressure.
Complicating things is the fact that a lot of foods have surprisingly high levels of salt. Think about that the next time you plop down in front of the TV with a beer and a bowl of cottage cheese.
