In response to the June 22 letter writer who believes we should not have so many laws (“Nation of laws trumps freedom”):
Unfortunately, the honor system just won’t work for a nation of more than 300 million people. Laws are not created just to suck money out of your pocket, but to keep this country safe and sane.
The letter writer noted that we should be taught about governments in school, and he is correct. I guess he was absent the day republic and democracy were discussed. A “true” democracy would lead to utter chaos, and end up with anarchy.
Pick up a civics book, read about the differences, and I think you will see why a republic is always going to be the correct choice.
