The Mariners haven’t landed Cy Young winner Johan Santana, but they did grab a pitcher with an even cooler name: R.A. Dickey. Bonus: He’s a knuckleballer.
Another bonus: Dickey’s a Rule 5 draftee, which means he’ll most likely remain on the M’s major league roster throughout the 2008 season.
The following is a transcript of what M’s fans will be hearing next summer:
…Here’s the 3-0 pitch from knuckleballer R.A. Dickey. And that ball gets by Kenji Johjima. Derek Jeter will score from third base. And the Yankees now lead the Mariners by a score of 13-3. Here comes manager John McLaren out of the dugout, and that will be all for R.A. Dickey…
Actor Keifer Sutherland got 48 days in jail for his second drunken-driving conviction in three years.
You can stop doing the math in your head. That’s 1,152 episodes of “24.” Just think: They could do at least a dozen entire seasons of Jack Bauer laundering fellow inmates’ orange jumpsuits.
He’ll get two visitors a day. One could be the fellow agent who’s working covertly for the bad guys, and the other could be the agent we think is a traitor, but really isn’t.
