Despite their own constituency’s overwhelming preference for Bernie Sanders, all nine of Washington state’s elected officials who are super delegates are backing Hillary Clinton. They think they are playing it safe by backing a sure winner. But, like pundits across the political spectrum who can’t figure out why Trump keeps winning, they are ignoring the single most important fact driving contemporary U.S. politics: People are tired of poll-tested, highly scripted, self-serving phonies who will promise them anything and then deliver the shaft. They want to be represented by genuine human beings, not carefully crafted corporate controlled drones. This has driven people to both Trump and Sanders. And it will rule the day in the presidential election. Those who think that Hillary Clinton will easily defeat Donald Trump just because he’s, well, Donald Trump, have their heads deeply embedded where the sun never shines.
Sens. Cantwell and Murray, Reps. Larsen, DelBene, Heck, Kilmer, McDermott and Smith, as well as Gov. Inslee all need to abandon their out-of-touch political calculations, listen to what their hearts and their constituents are telling them, and support the one real human candidate that has always represented the interests of ordinary Americans: Bernie Sanders. We can help them see the light that has already shone so brightly in our democratic caucuses by re-affirming our support for Bernie in the upcoming primary election.
