I spent most of Saturday at Lake Stevens High School, doing what I love, playing softball. Unfortunately, when I went to my car after our game, I found that both of my “support our troops” magnetic car ribbons were gone.
One said “Freedom isn’t Free” and the other said “Keep my Brother Safe.”
See, this isn’t just about politics to me. My good friend Jeff Starr died recently in Iraq, my brother is serving at Fort Lewis and one of my best friends is stationed in Texas. These ribbons represent my life, my family. There are two possible reasons that these were taken: One, someone wanted them for their own car, which is not too likely. The more probable reason is that someone didn’t like what I had to say. Well, guess what? They are my magnets, they were on my car and they represent me and if anyone doesn’t like it, that is their problem. I am proud that my brother is in the military. I am grateful for every soldier who risks his or her life day in and day out for me. I will keep replacing those ribbons even if the pathetic and arrogant people of the world keep taking them. I can’t help but think that the person who stole my ribbons is probably the same person that I see at the anti-war protest yelling “freedom of speech.” Go figure!
