There is another reason to vote for the Arlington Library Bond – besides more books, media collections and computer access. I’ve been a volunteer adult literacy tutor for years and libraries provide a safe, public meeting place for this valuable activity.
A larger library will include small study rooms that will work much better for adult tutoring. Those of us reading this newspaper, in the literate world, would find it almost inconceivable to not be able to read. Some of my students are reluctant to have others know about their illiteracy, which makes working in an open library more difficult for the student. A larger facility will provide privacy during reading lessons for those adults in our community who are trying to better themselves and be more productive citizens. I urge those in the Arlington Library Capital Facility Area to vote in favor of the bond in this election.
