When Northern State Hospital was shut down it put hundreds of people on the street or in their parents’ homes. The mentally ill have no one to help them. I have a mentally ill son — paranoid schizophrenic, who was seen by Compass Health for years. He was in a Compass Health facility for two days. I said he needs more care, they said to take him to the mission if I couldn’t care for him.
Sheriff’s deputies were called twice when he got violent; he wouldn’t take his medication. I still worry about him, as I know he needs complete care, other than what he is getting from his partner. Let’s open up Northern State Hospital with cameras in every room. We spend billions on wars that we have no business in. I feel so sorry for the families as they try to seek help. There isn’t any.
