Regarding Thursday’s Herald editorial (“FAA, U.S. aviation needn’t be hostage in shutdowns”), perhaps the legislators don’t understand that the shutdown is a consequence of legislators not seriously addressing the issues in dispute.
How much time did legislators take off since the last shutdown ended? Why was it not until late last night that the unresolved issues were addressed? Surely they can’t say they didn’t know why we had a shutdown!
Perhaps there should be more, not less, consequence resulting from a shutdown to get legislators to focus on doing their jobs. They are, in fact, responsible for keeping government funded.
