While Democrats Aaron Reardon and Kevin Quigley both strut around the editorial page, acting as if the upcoming election for Snohomish County executive is locked up in their favor, I have met with and been impressed by another candidate.
Millie Judge, a senior prosecuting attorney with the county and a candidate for county executive, came to my door last week in the 90-degree heat and asked me what I want to see from my next county executive. She asked me what I think could be improved with our current Snohomish County government and then she told me how she would address that problem if she were our next executive.
Millie Judge impressed me with her real and honest answers to the problems that most affect my life: traffic, uncontrolled growth, and developing an economic environment that will create better jobs for our families.
Millie won my vote with her knowledge, her good-natured approachability, and her willingness to reach out to our community and listen to what I want from my local government. This is fundamental if our future leaders really want to rebuild voters’ trust, like some claim they will do.
That’s public service. That’s what being a public servant is all about. And that is what I and everyone else should expect from our next county executive. The other candidates should follow her example. I say: Go, Millie, go!
