Therese Quinn was a natural choice

I was surprised and disappointed that Therese Quinn was singled out by the Snohomish County Council to be denied appointment to the Lake Stevens parks board. Especially if the reason, given by Councilman Jeff Sax, was that she “lacked leadership qualities.” This astounds me! Was he misinformed? Therese has shown the very best leadership qualities in her ability to bring together and work with diverse interests to solve problems. She respects all views and works hard to build consensus. She does not do this for political or financial gain or even for recognition – she does it because of her strong commitment to her community. Isn’t that what leadership is all about?

While most of us will see a problem, and be thinking that something should be done – Therese is getting the necessary people together and doing it. Councilman Sax, who has never met Mrs. Quinn, seems to dismiss her as just a volunteer who has worked on ballot issues. He stated that “… just because Therese was involved in the ballot issue, … doesn’t show me the ability to go to the community, listen to everyone and make decisions.” I beg to differ with Mr. Sax. Therese has a proven track record of doing exactly that! I can only assume that Mr. Sax was misinformed by people with their own private agendas. This is a loss for the entire Lake Stevens community.
