It’s almost Christmas, and as most of us count down to Dec. 25, a very dedicated and hard-working group at Mariner High School has extended the count to Dec. 29.
On that day, Mariner’s marching band and guard members, along with their amazing director, division leaders and a few boosters, will board a plane at Sea-Tac and become airborne – continuing a high that began many grueling practices, blistered feet, aching muscles and sleep-deprived nights ago. All in an effort to march in the Florida Orange Bowl.
Mariner High School (that other Mukilteo High School) has proved that with great motivation and hard work, luck comes rather readily. As the 70-plus band members set their tired but well-tuned bodies and musical instruments upon Florida soil, we proud citizens of Everett and the surrounding areas may sit back and claim our own portion of the glory.
They’re our kids – from our community – representing us, the great Northwest, Washington state. They should be proud. We should be proud. Now come on Herald, please give these kids some ink.
