They’re a patriotic, pro-war choice

In response to Andy Kautz’s May 13 letter saying how stupid it was to buy a hybrid car to save gas: He inferred it would be better to just keep driving our gas-guzzlers because the cost of a new hybrid car didn’t make sense. Is cost all that matters? Consider:

1. If we all drove hybrid cars and trucks we wouldn’t need foreign oil.

2. Arab terrorists get their funds from oil. What better way to fight this war than to dry up their source of funds? When you waste gas you are putting extra money directly in the hands of our enemy.

3. Hybrid vehicles emit very little pollution.

4. Hybrid cars are just as comfortable and fun to drive as any other car. And no, you don’t have to plug them in. Just put in 11 gallons of unleaded and go more than 600 miles! If you commute any distance, the savings are tremendous. Just do the math.

5. 9/11 changed our lives forever. I know buying a new hybrid car to replace or complement your work truck or SUV is a cost, but it’s a cost we are going to have to pay if we are serious about fighting this war on terror. Driving a hybrid vehicle is not stupid. It’s patriotic and pro-war. It makes sense.
